Friday Book Club & upcoming weekend!

I am linking up with Megan at A day in the life...again today for Book Club Friday.

Last week i started reading Last Night at the Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger. I love her books and so far i am enjoying this book, i will give my full review next week hopefully. I seem to have gotten into a lull where i am only reading about 25 pages or less a night and then wanting to put the books down.... I might need to take a break from reading for a couple weeks and see if that helps peak my interest again :)
Here is the overview Barnes and Noble wrote about this book:

"Brooke loved reading the dishy celebrity gossip rag Last Night. That is, until her marriage became a weekly headline.Brooke was drawn to the soulful, enigmatic Julian Alter the very first time she heard him perform “Hallelujah” at a dark East Village dive bar.Now five years married, Brooke balances two jobs—as a nutritionist at NYU Hospital and as a consultant to an Upper East Side girls’ school, where privilege gone wrong and disordered eating run rampant—in order to help support her husband’s dream of making it in the music world.Things are looking up when after years of playing Manhattan clubs and toiling as an A&R intern, Julian finally gets signed by Sony. Although no one’s promising that the album will ever hit the airwaves, Julian is still dedicated to logging in long hours at the recording studio. All that changes after Julian is asked to perform on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno—and is catapulted to stardom, literally overnight. Amazing opportunities begin popping up almost daily—a new designer wardrobe, a tour with Maroon 5, even a Grammy performance. At first the newfound fame is fun—who wouldn’t want to stay at the Chateau Marmont or visit the set of one of television’s hottest shows? Yet it seems that Brooke’s sweet husband—the man who can’t handle hot showers and wears socks to bed—is increasingly absent, even on those rare nights they’re home together. When rumors about Brooke and Julian swirl in the tabloid magazines, she begins to question the truth of her marriage and is forced to finally come to terms with what she thinks she wants—and what she actually needs."

Looking forward to what you are reading this week! I am still needing a few more recommendations for my 20 book reads, if you have a favorite please leave a comment with your recommendation!

I really don't have too many plans this weekend, i am looking forward to heading to the Farmer's Market with my mom and a couple of her friends on Saturday, to get some goodies!! :) What is your favorite thing to pick up at your farmer's market? Our farmer's market has 216 vendors so i have LOTS of things to see and try and decide what to get! Then on Sunday i am hoping Joe and I can finish painting the basement and then hit up the pool or lake to get some sun!

We were going to be getting new carpet in our basement within the next month or so, but then our garage door spring went out... :( and we have a wooden door and i about died when the guy told me how much it was to replace the spring, so we are splurging and getting  new door and track instead of replacing the spring, we just replaced the opener last summer, so lets hope this is the last of garage door repair :) It is amazing that you can spend a few more dollars and get something

I was really looking forward to the new carpet, but i guess we are back to saving and waiting until later this fall for the carpet. I am also slowly starting to look at new counter tops and sinks for our kitchen! Can't wait to do this project! What is your favorite home improvement project you have done or are wanting to do?

Also, i have picked on my items for my 50 followers giveaway!! Getting close, so if you enjoy reading become a follower :)

Hope everyone has a great Friday!!

Until next time,
<3

All about me :)

I copied this from Jessica over at You are my color, you should check her blog out, she is very funny and just shared some exciting news that she is expecting, i can't wait to follow her on her journey to motherhood :)

I am... Melissa :)

I want... to get my butt back in shape BAD! :)

I have... a wonderful husband, the best family a girl could ask for and the CUTEST little munchkin dog :)

I wish... I could be good at cooking and better at catching up with friends!

I hate... awkward silences, know-it-alls and rude people :)

I fear... losing my loved ones.

I hear... about all the sadness but want to hear about the good things happening :)

I search... for DIY ideas and decorating ideas all the time! Along with floor plans for a future home :)

I wonder... about many things, too many to list!

I regret... i don't have any regrets, i think we learn from our "mistakes" or regrets and those make us the person we are today!

I love... my husband and the way he puts up with me and our sweet dog Macy, my family, my friends and you followers who follow this little blog i have <3

I never... thought i would have a dog and love her as much as i do!!!

I ache... for loved ones i miss and think about daily.
I always... stress out way more than I should.

I usually... plan way more than i can actually accomplish in one day!

I am not... a cook, but wish i was... going to be taking a cooking class this fall, wish this lady luck :)
I dance... best when I've been drinking and only when i have been drinking!

I sing... only in my car by myself, i wouldn't want to hurt any ones poor ears :)

I sometimes... wonder, what we will be doing in 10 years!

I cry... over loved ones, good/happy times and sometimes at TV shows......
I am not always... as motivated to get things done as i would like to be!

I lose... i use to lose my keys until i got a vehicle that has a push button start instead of using a key, which for me is great because i never have to remove my keys from my purse :)

I am confused... about something all the time, a fairly (6 months) new job will do that to you :)

I need... to be more motivated!

I should... really get going on my Christmas list for what we need to buy haha!

If you do the same list, let me know - I'd love to read yours!!

Thanks for reading and thank you for following my blog! love you all!

Until next time,

I'm Loving:  That i decided to give up soda awhile ago and i had one the other day just to see if it was as good as i thought......... Well i don't know if i will be drinking it again, i was really disappointed with the soda, i don't crave it and it didn't taste good to me, i guess i will just be sticking with my H2O :)

I'm Loving:  That i joined Pinterest and I am hoping i can finally tackle some of the cute things i have found on there :) You should follow me, don't mind that i have just a few things on my boards, i am just getting started :) http://pinterest.com/melissaadams82/

Lady A concert :)

My sister and I went to the Lady Antebellum concert on Friday night and we had a unexpected severe thunderstorm happen while we were there, this was an outside concert! They started early and unfortunately had to end early as well..... We were sitting there and all the sudden down pour with no sprinkling, then it just rained and rained and the winds were blowing up to 60 mph, we were getting to our vehicle and waiting in line and there were power lines down and the streets were flooding due to all the heavy rain! It was crazy, by the time we got to my house, we were cold and wanted to be in sweat pants, i know sweat pants in July that is crazy and it was over 100 degrees that day! :)

As you can see we look like drowned rats :)

I dont' have any pictures of the concert right now, but hopefully soon!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Until next time,

Book Club Friday and Other!

I am linking up with Megan again over at A day in the life... for Book Club Friday. A couple Friday's ago i was reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I really enjoyed this book and i am anxious to watch the movie that is coming out in August! This was a book someone had recommended i read for the 101 in 1001 days.
I have now started reading Last night at the Chateau Marmont By Lauren Weisberger, i just love all her books and i have been anxious to read this one! If you have not read any of her books, i would recommend them, they are east and good reads!!

Here is what Barnes and Noble had to say about the book:

I am excited to see what you are reading! I am only about 15 pages in on this book and hope to finish it by next Friday!

Tonight i am heading the the Lady Antebellum Concert with my little sister!! We are so excited! It is hot and now there is a chance of rain, so we could be rained on! Lets hope it doesn't rain though!

What are your plans for the weekend?

My hometown and surrounding areas :(

On Monday July 11, 2011 my hometown and the surrounding communities had a severe wind storm tear through the town(s), they had straight line winds at 110-130 mph for 10 consecutive minutes. The sirens never sound, my parents were in the basement and my mother and sister said it sounded like things were just falling. Little did they know when they came upstairs what the town would look like. My parents lost power at 5:15 a.m. on Monday and are still without as of today Saturday at 12:00, so are many others, they last reported that about 60% of town had power. They were told yesterday it could be as late as Wednesday or Thursday, the bad part is Iowa is going to be having some severe heat, we will be in a "extreme heat advisory" come Saturday night! There were no severe injuries reported and everyone is safe, just lots of clean up. We were suppose to have our class reunion this weekend as well and it has been postponed until a later date, below are some pictures of the town, i will post more when i can get the pictures from my mother.

Trees at the Iowa Braille and Sight Savings School

The roof at the Iowa Braille and Sight Savings School

I hope that the town can get power back to people before the heat comes and that everyone is staying safe during the clean up.

I hope to have more pictures and updates soon, hope everyone has a cool and fun weekend!

Until next time,

Book Club Friday

Linking up with Megan at A day in the life..... for Book Club Friday, i have not linked up for a couple of weeks, i have been busy and time got away from me.

I am currently reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I am only on page 20 and so far so good, the first thing i said about this book, was wow the grammar :)

Here is what Barnes and Noble had to say about the book :)

"Be prepared to meet three unforgettable women: Twenty-two-year-old Skeeter has just returned home after graduating from Ole Miss. She may have a degree, but it is 1962, Mississippi, and her mother will not be happy till Skeeter has a ring on her finger. Skeeter would normally find solace with her beloved maid Constantine, the woman who raised her, but Constantine has disappeared and no one will tell Skeeter where she has gone. Aibileen is a black maid, a wise, regal woman raising her seventeenth white child. Something has shifted inside her after the loss of her own son, who died while his bosses looked the other way. She is devoted to the little girl she looks after, though she knows both their hearts may be broken. Minny, Aibileen's best friend, is short, fat, and perhaps the sassiest woman in Mississippi. She can cook like nobody's business, but she can't mind her tongue, so she's lost yet another job. Minny finally finds a position working for someone too new to town to know her reputation. But her new boss has secrets of her own. Seemingly as different from one another as can be, these women will nonetheless come together for a clandestine project that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating within the lines that define their town and their times. And sometimes lines are made to be crossed. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement... ."

I wanted to get this book read before the movie comes out this fall! I am hoping to get some of it read tonight as i will not be going outside, we are in a EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING! YUCK! So i will be staying inside snuggling with my dog and reading until the weather is a bit more tolerable :)

Can't wait to see what you are reading!

Until next time,
<3

Happy 4th of July weekend!

I love the 4th of July weekend! It is time to spend with family and friends! How are you spending your weekend?

I am going to kick off the weekend with hitting up our local farmers market, we have 216 vendors at our farmer's market, so i am going to have a quite a few things to look at :)

I also hope to do the following:
Grill with my Hubby :)

Swimming or tubing, and getting some sun! :)

I also hope to enjoy lots of GREAT snacks and drinks! :)

And of course, i can't wait to see the fireworks, we had a major flood in Eastern Iowa in 2008 and the fireworks have not been going off in the "normal" spot for 2 years and this year they are back to their original location and we can't wait to get back downtown to watch the show!!

Can't wait to hear about your plans!

In other news, we are going to be cutting down 2 trees in our yard, one is not doing well and is dying and the other is a Evergreen tree in our back yard that is a MONSTER, it is too big and takes up too much of our yard and it also drops those needles and they are a mess.... so one is coming down in about 2 weeks and the other will come down late this summer, i can't wait! Next summer i will finally get to have my garden :)!!!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Let Freedom Ring!
Until next time,
<3
